HazelnutsThere are about fifteen varieties of hazelnut with Whiteheart being the most commonly grown in New Zealand. Hazelnuts are rich in unsaturated fats (about 80% of the oil) and low in saturated and polyunsaturated fats. They are very high in B vitamins and good at lowering cholesterol. Hazels are a nutritional giant, loaded with monounsaturated fatty acids and Vitamin E. They are a healthy snack and add a delicious flavour to biscuits, cakes, bread or vegetables. Hazelnut flavour is a divine companion to fish. Sprinkle fish dishes with chopped hazelnuts when steaming fish or baked fish recipes. Then there are the easy deserts, delicious with berries, chocolate, cherries or honey! But my all-time favourite has to be roasted Hazels chopped into a lettuce salad. <crunch><munch> Click here for separate article on Health Benefits of Hazelnuts. | |||
